Meet our 2022-2023 Shlichot
Get to know Talia and Tchelet, our two Shlichot who have joined us for the year from Israel.
The Shaliach program is a living bridge between the Jewish communities in Israel and the United States. Students who are finished with high school apply to the program and if selected, are assigned to work in communities throughout the USA. Our two Shlichot will spend time helping to infuse Israeli culture and Jewish life with our students. We are so excited they are here with us!
How long will you be staying in America?
“We are here for one year on a special program.”
Did you know each other before coming to America?
“Yes, we were roommates in the high school we attended. We are basically like sisters.”
Where is your hometown?
Talia: I grew up in Be’er Sheva.
Tchelet: Mercaz Shapira. It is a yeshuv, near Ashkelon.
Tell us a little bit about your family?
Talia: I have three sisters and two brothers. I am one of the youngest in the family. Four of my siblings are older than me and are already married. I have a big family with 11 nieces and nephews. We all spend Shabbat together so I get to see them every week.
Tchelet: I have five sisters and three brothers. I am in the middle, like a sandwich. My older siblings are married and I have seven nieces and nephews.
What do you do for fun?
Talia & Tchelet: We like to hang with our friends, go shopping and travel. We also love the beach.
What do you plan to do after you return to Israel?
Talia: When I return home I will go to school to study something for my future. I might want to be a nurse, but I am still figuring that out.
Tchelet: I will go to school when I get home, but I don’t know what I will study just yet.
We know you have only been in Arizona a short time, but what do you like about it so far?
Talia: I love all the space we have here. The views are amazing. The mountains are so beautiful and the people are very nice.
Tchelet: I really love all the different cacti that I have seen and the views are so pretty to look at!
Where do you hope to travel during your year in America?
Talia: I really want to go to New York City!
Tchelet: We plan to go to Stanford, California. We came here with a group of girls and we are all assigned to different schools throughout America. We have plans to meet up in California with all of them.
Why are you excited to work at Pardes?
Talia & Tchelet: When we found out we were coming to work at Pardes we read about it online and got excited to bring the love, culture and Hebrew language to the community here. So far everyone has been so nice and welcoming!
